The OA story . . . how it all began.

The Ordinarily Amazing story began with the search for a simple label to describe people like my mother and so many other respected individuals in my life. With a gift of authenticity, she is full of love, kindness and a unique curiosity about life. She isn’t famous. She didn’t rise from poverty to riches. She wasn’t a leading feminist. Yet she has influenced thousands of individuals in her life and continues to do so today. Her powerful positive influence was spread in a very ordinary way. Through her encouraging yet honest comments - the way she looked people in the eye, or the way she showed everyone respect - she was so real, so casual, so ordinary, but also incredibly amazing. She raised four children, loves 16 grandchildren, worked as a secretary, volunteers for Meals on Wheels, teaches Sunday school, and she did it all because she wanted to…a rare quality in this world of never-ending idle complaints.  She is Ordinarily Amazing -- extraordinary in her ordinary life It described her perfectly.

So there was the beginning of a book. A little book titled “Ordinarily Amazing”. It slowly expanded beyond just OA people, but really became about OA moments and then to  It needed others OA stories. I wanted the book to have a broader perspective than just my OA influences. So it seemed logical to build a website, create a community where others could share their OA stories. How would others define Ordinarily Amazing? What would their OA stories be? Who would they honor? I wanted people from all walks of life and from different parts of world to be able to tell their OA stories.

OA has grown into more of a perspective of life and a description of all the great ordinary gifts in life- it represents awareness, accountability, authenticity and gratitude. OA celebrates the extraordinary in the ordinary and so much more. Ordinarily Amazing is a reminder to all of us to take notice of the every day miracles. We started the Simpy OA emails as weekly reminders to look at life and all it throws at us with an Ordinarily Amazing perspective.

Then the OA postcards became a great way to create an OA Living Chain of people honoring people and spreading a little OA in their life. The OA postcards are designed for family, friends, customers and employees. The OA Living Chain continues to grow every day. Join in.

And now the “the little book” has progressed into a complete first draft and we are working through the many publishing options. In the meantime, we are sharing excerpts of the book in our speaking engagments, contact us to book OA for your next event.

Keep the Ordinarily Amazing top of mind in your life –in each of your ordinary days..
