An OA Dog, Culebra Adventure

We are a family of only one child, so our family is always Daddy, Mommy, our daughter and her lovely cat named Mio. Living in Puerto Rico, we are lovers of the sea and go every other weekend to our boat to visit the beautiful beaches in the island of Culebra. This, of course, is not good entertainment for the cat, so he always stays at home. We enjoy our boating very much although our daughter sometimes feels quite lonely. A few months ago, while my husband took a few days off work and stayed home, the neighbors’ dog fell in love with my husband and decided, pretty much, to move in with us. This was shocking since we have always been cat people. Well, the dog and the cat felt in love and now we are a family of four.

The dog owners do not know us very well but they know that most of the time, their dog is in our house. When going last weekend to the boat, my daughter proposed that we take the dog to the boat. We ask Daddy but the answer was a big NO. “This is too risky; the dog is not ours, etc, etc.” Well, we all sat in our SUV and the dog jumped inside our car and Daddy, the same one that a minute ago said NO, could not say NO to the dog. So, there we were, going boating with the neighbors dog without anyone knowing. The dog behaved very well on our 1 hr drive to the marina. She did get a little dizzy during the boat trip to Culebra but once she saw the beautiful beach, she jumped in the water and convinced us that we made the right decision bringing her.

Daddy couldn’t be happier that day. My daughter did not get bored one second, and seeing the dog go in front of her kayak while my daughter was paddling was hysterical. The beach was completely isolated, but we did not need any one else. We had the most amazing atmosphere of union and love. Carmela, the beautiful neighbor’s dog, showed us how to have an ordinarily amazing weekend, just enjoying the privilege of living in the Caribbean and breaking little rules. Daddy woke up early and ran on the beach with Carmela, she followed the crabs to their holes, and swam like a champion.

The weekend will always stay in our memories as one of the best. We came back home completely rested and happy. Carmela’s owners have no clue that their dog spent the weekend in an isolated island of the Caribbean, navigated in kayaks, and was the most ordinarily amazing dog ever. They may be wondering, why she had so much sand on her toes… Now, we are looking for a nice dog bikini that says “ordinarily amazing ”.
