My OA Gift, Christmas in July

As many wise people have tried to tell us, it feels better to give than receive. However until you really experience giving on a big level, you really don’t get it. It was a very hot depressing day in July and I was feeling down. Mad at myself for having a moment of self-pity when my life is what others probably dream of. I had just read the book, The Secret, a month before. So I decided right then I was going to surprise all those I loved with a gift of gratitude.

I sent twelve family and friends an OA gift . Each gift had a notecard that said, “You are Ordinarily Amazing.” It was utter torture waiting for them to receive them. One by one for five or six consecutive days, they called me to thank me. Every phone call started with tears on both sides. They were so honored and I was so full of gratitude. It did more for me than anything I could have ever bought myself. It was thrilling—nothing but pure joy. Honoring others. Giving to others. Paying it forward. Now that puts you in a state of undeniable bliss. I will never forget it.
